The Seventh Annual Bangor Derby took place today, falling for the first time ever on St. Patrick’s Day. The surprise winner was 1000-1 long shot, Your Lucky Irish Rose, a horse from Lucky Horseshoe Farms in Ireland, that was running out of the #7 slot.
The winning jockey was Patrick Riley McMahon, who is also celebrating his birthday today. “I don’t know why she was such a long shot,” the ecstatic birthday boy told this Modern Philosopher after the race. “Rosie has always done well in the cold weather, has never lost on St. Paddy’s Day, and who in their right minds wouldn’t bet for the Irish on this holiday?”
Apparently, Patrick, a lot of people. Turns out that no one bet on Your Lucky Irish Rose to win the race. I tried to ask some of those in attendance how they could possibly not take a chance on a horse that luck clearly was smiling upon, but everyone I approached was too hungover from last night’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to offer me a coherent answer.
I’m sorry. I made an error in the previous paragraph. It turns out one person was smart enough to bet on the sure thing. Looks like Irish Eyes were smiling on this Modern Philosopher…
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Looks like a sloppy track. Who would know to bet on a mudder on St. Paddy’s Day.
His mother was a mudder! Cosmo told me that much…
Ah, yes the mother mudder, but who’s the St. Paddy’s winner’s Pa?
All I know is that Mikey is the big winner in the casino tonight. Yes, my brain shifts gears from Seinfeld to Swingers that quickly!
