Yes, Modern Philosophers, I can be ridiculously superstitious at times.
I have this thing where no one, other than my appointed Trusted Reader, can read any portion of a screenplay until the first draft is completed. I also refuse to share any news about my writing out of fear that it will jinx things and lead to the whole deal falling apart.
Last night, when Matthias was talking to me about the big news he had to share about .33 Reverse Gunther, he encouraged me to share it on my blog. Of course, I hesitated. If I told you about the news, Modern Philosophers, it would jinx everything, right?
Somehow, reason prevailed. Maybe it’s this new attitude I’m trying to adopt. So I sent an email to The Girl Who Gets To Hear Everything First to tell her the exciting news, and then I posted it to my blog.
Moments later, The Girl Who Knows Me Better Than Anyone emailed back that she was super excited, but wasn’t I afraid I was going to jinx everything by mentioning it on my blog??? She really does know me.
Here’s the way I look at it…screenwriting is like a rollercoaster. There are some really thrilling moments that get the heart pounding and make you scream like a banshee with excitement. Most of the time, however, you’re just stuck in the car back at the start of the ride due to mechanical difficulties.
Quite often, the most exciting part of all this is the potential deal that might happen. I usually only share this news with The Girl Who Knows My Secrets, which means that no one else in my life ever knows how close I come to that big success. No one ever has any idea that I almost hit the big time.
I figured it was time to let others in on the excitement. When you think about it, what’s the point of good news if you can’t share it, right?
Of course, if this deal falls through, I’m going back to the No Sharing Policy!
Happy Hump Day!
