Blogging in Bed

blogging in bedGood morning, Modern Philosophers!  As I was stretching and sprawling across my very comfy queen size bed earlier, an intriguing Deep Thought rushed to the forefront of my mind: Why aren’t there more bed-based blogs?

It’s so comfortable here under the covers with the morning sun providing more than enough light to work.  Now that The Girl Who Is So Tiny But Somehow Manages To Take Up Most Of The Bed And All Of The Covers is no longer using her side of the bed, there is plenty of room for me, my laptop and my Deep Thoughts.

I must admit that I have written a post or two from bed, but it doesn’t happen very often.  My “Trapdoor” post from Friday night was conceived in this bed.  The urge to write hit me as I was walking up the stairs to the Master Bedroom of The House on the Hill, and by time I’d made it to my bed, there urges had overwhelmed me.  So I whipped it out, my trusty laptop, and I pounded out that post like nobody’s business.  Did you have any idea that it was written in bed?  I doubt it.

bed standOf course, I don’t think anyone should be blogging in bed if they’re going to do it like the bloke in the photo to the left.  That sort of behavior would give blogging a bad name.  Why is he wearing a tie in bed?

I approve of the form displayed by the woman in the first photo.  She looks relaxed, engaged, and comfortable.  I would definitely let her blog from my bed.

So I think I might be on to something here.  When I think about writing full time, I always picture myself out on the front porch, my legs up on the porch railing, the sun shining down on me, and a Snapple at the ready.

Now, I can imagine a day where I didn’t even have to get out of bed.  My Sleeping Toga could certainly double for a Writing Toga.  My laptop is always near the bed in case I am hit by inspiration in the middle of the night, and I could just have one of the interns bring me up food and drink whenever I need sustenance.

breakfast in bedWhat do you think, Modern Philosophers?  Should Blogging in Bed become the hot new trend?  Have you ever blogged from the boudoir?  Do you think it would make you feel more comfortable with your readers if you invited them into bed with you?

I even came up with a tagline: The Bed…It’s Not Just For Breakfast Anymore!

What do you think?  I’m pretty sure this is the next big idea.

Yawn.  Okay.  Back to bed…oh wait, I’m already here!

Reblogged this on MetaRead360 Small Press presents and commented:
Deep thoughts on a comfy mattress…sounds perfect!

Maybe he is in to the 50 shades variety of sex antics and that is why he is wearing a tie in bed. I’d write from bed if I could connect to wireless there but unfortunately I can’t connect on that side of the house. It’s dumb. But I guess it doesn’t matter since this laptop dies every time you bump the cord so it stays down in the den with the Internet connection

I tried with all these “in bed” responses to your Phortune Cookie posts, but… tsk, maybe you’ll take me more properly whimsical now (because ‘serious’ would be oxymoronic, wouldn’t it?)

Um, I’m still enjoying my bed after blogging from it last night and this morning. I’m getting hungry though. Might be time for some pancakes…

Send the interns to get them. That was outlined in my post…gotta have interns to do the ugly little tasks that keep the blog up and running! 🙂

  5. I don’t have a lap top, so I would have to lug the monitor, keyboard, and tower all in there and put them on the floor by the bed. It sounds like a lot of work.

I just went down the hall to mom/dad’s room. Since they have the biggest most comfortable bed in the house – a luxuorious king size Select Number bed – I think that would be my spot in the writing world. My lap top will fit with my pot belly. I can stretch out and concentrate. Yes, I think you have a great point here. Off to make some beautiful writing. Thanks my friend. XOXO – Bacon

I always blog in bed. I tend to blog at night a lot anyways and by that time, I’m in bed relaxing. I feel like more of my thoughts come through just because I am in a more comfortable setting and I get to contemplate more on what I would like to say and write to my followers. Very rarely I blog somewhere else, but the only other place is a coffee shop. I can’t blog in the kitchen or in the living room or anywhere else in the house. The space isn’t right, and that may sound odd.

    Again, that’s just me. 😛

I do the majority of my writing in bed. No other location is nearly as comfy/cozy.

  9. Susan Sassi says:

I’m reading your blog from my bed right now. Does this mean we are sleeping together? *blush*

  10. I have never blogged in bed.
Usually, I am sitting in the recliner.
My head needs to be a little higher than the rest of me, in order to intercept the thoughts that live in the air–without interference. The conversation between you and Hollie made me laugh. Definitely not an IT problem.

nice wordplay in your bedroom scene austin. i write in bed at times, and anywhere else where and when the mood strikes me, as i don’t have one particularly fruitful place, it just happens when it happens and i go with it )
