Pope Francis to Catholics: Celebrate Palm Sunday By High Fiving a Stranger!

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday. Please obey the Pope’s request!

Pope Francis, 13/3/13 Pope Francis, in his Palm Sunday sermon from The Vatican, urged Catholics throughout the world to celebrate the day by giving a high five to a total stranger.

Palm Sunday is the traditional beginning of Holy Week, which culminates next Sunday with the celebration of Easter.  Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphant return to Jerusalem.  According to the Bible, Jesus rode into town on a donkey and the people lay down their cloaks and palm branches before him.

“So, basically, Jesus came into town knowing he was never going to leave alive,” the Pope explained during his sermon.  “He was going to give his life to save total strangers.  I am asking you to be like Jesus and spread his spirit of giving to a total stranger.  Just hit ’em up with a high five and wish them a Happy Palm Sunday.”
