Not A Morning Person

morning runI’ve never been a morning person, Modern Philosophers.

That’s never more evident than when the alarm clock shrieks far earlier than normal because Mr. Fitness decided the night before that he wanted to get up for a morning run.

Mr. Fitness is a side of my personality that can be a real pain in the nether regions.  He pals around too much with the Hopeless Romantic, and the two of them are always getting me into situations I’d much rather avoid.

By sleeping.

Because sleep is the answer to every problem, isn’t it?  You don’t feel good?  Go to sleep.  Having a rough day?  Take a nap.  Someone broke your heart?  Sleep it off.  Financial stress?  Better use that mattress before you have to pawn it to pay the bills.

I used to sleep so late when I was in college.  How important are those morning classes when you’re a Film major, am I right?  Everyone knows inspiration hits late at night, and that every self-respecting writer needs to burn the midnight oil.

This getting up early thing just isn’t for me.  I’m always at least two Dwarfs in the morning: Sleepy and Grumpy, and I often act like Snow White during a certain time of the month.

Alas, I still got up at the crack of dawn and went for a morning run.  Despite all my incessant whining about getting up early, I’m glad I got in my 3 miles.  My head was swimming with ideas (does that make this a biathlon then???) from last night’s production meeting for The Nite Show, and I spent the half hour working out skit ideas in my head.  I’ve decided I really want to come up with a recurring character that allows me some on air time this season.  How cool would that be?

just runAs a result of my morning run, my brain is in a creative place, my body is in a healthier place, and I’m feeling much more like Doc than any of the other Dwarfs.

Happy Thursday, Modern Philosophers.  Hope you got to sleep in this morning!

If you did, don’t tell me about it.  It would probably just make me jealous and ruin my mood.

Go chase a dream today…

Well I was going to say something, but then you said not to say anything about that, so I won’t. Have a great rest-of-your-day, and the future involvements with the show sound totally awesome! Congratulations!!

  2. I feel amazing when I wake up early to exercise, yet 99% of the time I hear the alarm, completely forget that I ever had that amazing feeling, and stay in bed as long as possible.

An early morning workout in nature when the day is new, the world is fresh. Yes, I am inspired to start a new day in this way.

  4. I agree! It’s not always easy to peel myself out of bed at 5 am, but my morning run or swim or bike ride is well worth the effort. I never feel as good if I stay in bed that extra hour. I am glad to hear that I am not the only “crazy” one.

  5. Nice to see the world alone before the rest of the people in it crowd you. ~(*_~)~~
Your are vibrating off the page. Nice to see someone in a fantastic mood. Keep it going all day. 😀

  6. I wake up so early (between 5-5:30am), and it’s hard every.single.time. But I do have loads more energy in the morning than the evening.
