At The Midnight Hour

midnightI’ve never thought to write a blog post at midnight, Modern Philosophers, so let’s see what happens when I give it a shot.

For one thing, it’s very difficult to concentrate with the Grandfather’s Clock in the Sun Room tolling the hour.  How is it that I manage to sleep through that every night?  Perhaps the noise is the source of some of my horrible nightmares.

My usual inspirations are nowhere to be seen at this hour.  Even The Devil, my most frequent house guest, has called it a night by now.  Conversely, it’s far too early for Seamus to arrive at The House on the Hill.  I’m sure he’s out somewhere carousing and ringing in the new day with a fresh pint and a shake of his mighty shillelagh.

While I know that Gary the Gargoyle is at his usual perch on the roof, watching over me, even he has settled in for the night and will try to get some sleep.

CarriageAs for this Modern Philosopher, my eyes are growing heavy and the Deep Thoughts are much more shallow.  I fear I shall turn into a pumpkin at any moment now that the extremely noisy clock has tolled twelve.

What a week it has been, though.  So many words and stories have scampered safely from my brain to the page.  Tonight, I have shared the new screenplay with another set of eyes for the first time, having sent the first 46 pages to The Girl Who Is My Trusted Reader.

I an anxiously await her feedback, as I have no idea if the world I’ve created, or the yarn I’m spinning are at all entertaining.  All I am certain of at this point, is that it has felt wonderful to be writing a movie again.

I was mistaken earlier, Modern Philosophers, when I said I was all alone at this late hour.  Clearly, The Sandman has come calling.  Because of his visit, I must now say good night because it’s only a matter on moments before I drift off into a deep sleep.

At the midnight hour…

Good morning, Austin. I was asleep by midnight while you were toiling to Grandfather Time. I hope The Girl Who thumbs-up the new one. I’m sure her comments will fuel your passion for the project, sir.

I’m not usually up that late, either, hence my eagerness to see what wold end up on the page if I tried to write. 🙂

I hope she can find time in her busy studying schedule to allow herself some escape into my new story…

  3. You might dodge a bullet but never the sandman. 😀 Night. Night.

I miss The Sandman, he never calls, he never writes…go figure.
Hope everything goes well and you got some sleep.
