I’ve written a couple of previous posts lamenting the fact that The House on the Hill was not blessed with a Monster Under The Bed. Sure, my neighbors’ Monster likes to hang out under there at times, but it’s not the same as having one of my own.
Well, I’ve finally gotten my wish, Modern Philosophers. At least temporarily.
This morning, I adopted two adorable kitties from the Bangor Humane Society. Luna and Cali spent a few minutes scurrying around the first floor and scoping out the place. Then they hit the stairs and raced up to the master bedroom.
They’ve pretty much been under my bed all day. Not exactly fun for me, but I know it’s important to make them feel comfortable and allow them to adapt to their new home. So, I’ve spent a lot of time on the bedroom floor, chatting it up with the Furry Monsters Under My Bed.
Cali and Luna came out for little visits, had a little something to eat and drink, allowed me to pet them, but showed no interest in spending any lengthy amount of time away from their kingdom under the bed.
About an hour ago, however, Luna decided to get all bold and come downstairs. She jumped up onto all the window sills, and even hopped up onto the desk in the foyer.
Then, to my great pleasure, she decided to join me on the couch! She let me pet her, chat her up, and even take a few photos.
There is Luna on the left. What do you think, Modern Philosophers? She’s a beauty, isn’t she?
I will share a photo of Cali whenever she decides it’s time for a photo shoot. I have been messaging with Keren, the very nice young lady from the Bangor Humane Society who helped me with the adoption, and she assured me that Cali is a shy girl, but I will soon see that she is quite the loving kitty.
So I’m extremely happy to have two Furry Monsters Under My Bed. I just look forward to when they become Furry Monsters That Sleep On My Bed.
Precious! Coming from a long line of cat people, I can assure you that Cali will come around. Everybody has their own personality, maybe Cali’s an introvert. Let her have a place to hide that’s all her own so she knows there’s a safety zone and she’ll start conquering your castle little by little.
Love the furry monsters under the bed analogy. Get used to things going bump in the night. Cats be nocturnal.
I just noticed that the bedspread in the guest bedroom was askew, so I went in to investigate. Cali was curled up under it looking all adorable! Guess she is making herself at home in there, too. 🙂
Sweet! Don’t worry, soon the monsters will be taking up all the room on your bed and leaving very little for you. I bet it feels so much better there at the house on the hill, a house just isnt complete without a cat.
So true. Just knowing they are here makes me much happier, and having Luna on the couch with me earlier put a huge smile on my face…
That’s awesome!
She also slept with me, which was awesome!
Yay!
They are still both pretty shy, but they are clearly getting more comfy in the house…
I bet they will be running around underfoot in no time!
I just went up to take a nap and Cali, the shyer one, hopped up on the bed and insisted I pet her for a good 20 minutes. That made me happy. 🙂
Sweet! That’s wonderful news.
🙂
Lovely! They will be sleeping on your bed in no time. Our little rescue poodle snores right here, sleeping sideways in the middle of the bed…
I’m looking forward to it. Perhaps without the snoring, though. 🙂
Good for you, Austin. New kitties have a breaking-in period, and are always so different from their predecessors, but will be special in their own ways. Having this battle at my house too. Try not to openly compare them to Banky. He can’t be replaced, but perhaps you can realize another companion.
Clearly, Banky cannot be replaced. 🙂
I woke up to find Luna asleep at my feet, and hearing Cali chasing a toy with a little bell on it all over the downstairs of the house…
Soon they’ll be cuddled up on your bed with you, waking you up at 6am for food. 🙂
I hope so!
Or 5 am like my lil one does 😉
🙂
They’re just getting used to their new home. You’re all lucky to have each other. 🙂
Yes, I agree. 🙂
Oh yay! Cats 🙂
Hurrah!
Then they will become Furry Monsters that provide an extra blanket on you. Probably useful in Maine. Congratulations!
Thank you! Luna is curled up on the bed now as I type this reply…
