Summer Returns For A Quickie

SummerCan you believe that I am out on the front porch of The House on the Hill in a tee shirt and shorts on September 27, Modern Philosophers?

I’d normally be shoveling snow by now, but today, I’m basking in the sun’s loving glow, and enjoying the fact that Summer has returned for a quickie.

Yes, that is Summer Glau in the photo to the left.  No, she is not the Summer who has returned for a quickie.  That would’ve been really nice, though, and if she had, I would not be out on the porch writing at the moment!

I am loving this hot weather so much that I actually decided to mow the lawn, and didn’t even complain about it.  Because mowing the lawn is always better than shoveling snow out of the driveway.

It’s 75 degrees right now as I write this.  Of course, I’ve got all the storm windows down in the house, bracing for the usual Winter frost, so I’m scurrying around to try to allow as much of this natural heat inside as possible to warm the place.  The kitties have found their sun spots, and are also basking in Summer’s return.

Summer gunsSince Summer was back, being all flirty, and clearly wanting me to spend time with her, I put on my lightest Running Toga and went for a run.  I was totally into the idea of getting sweaty with Summer, and it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Again, this was not with the gorgeous Summer Glau, who is pictured on the left, but a Modern Philosopher can dream…

I did a 3 mile run, smiling the whole way because I was thrilled to be dripping with sweat instead of shivering.  I’m pretty sure I got a tan while out on the road, since my skin wasn’t bundled under three layers as it normally would be this time of year.

Like I said earlier, I was in such a good mood when I got back to The House on the Hill that I busted out the lawn mower to complete my Homeowner’s Biathlon.  I had secretly vowed to not mow the lawn again this year, but since Summer was winking at me and begging me to come out and play, I was fine with giving the Great Lawn one last mow.

Now I’m out here on the porch, listening to the band that’s playing at the church function down the street, and getting some writing done.  What an unexpectedly perfect way to spend a Saturday.

just runI wish Summer would stay even longer, or at the very least, ask me to run away with her.  I’ve been running all Summer, so I’m certain I am in good enough shape to keep up with her until it’s time for her to return to Maine.

I hope the weather is just as nice wherever you are reading this, Modern Philosophers.  If it is, you really should get outside and take advantage of it.

As you know, Snow Miser and his minions will be running us down very soon…

Enjoy the warm while you can, Austin. The switch will flip and then we will be shoveling soon enough, and we know it.

  4. This is what I call Fall/Summer (as to not be politically incorrect). I am enjoying the little bit of sweat rolling down my back as I go for walks. Which I’d better enjoy, cuz I hear Northern Wisconsin is going to be in the 50s/30s in six days. Can I bring my sweat with me?
