Just A Stroll Around The Office Park

It was a beautiful Fall day in Maine, Modern Philosophers.  61 degrees and sunny, with a snowstorm on the way tomorrow.  Just in time for Thanksgiving.

Since the weather was perfect, my coworker Micki and I decided to go for a stroll around the office park.  I took some photos so you could join us.

workThis is the low security institution in which I am chained to a desk 8 hours a day.  Even though it is a prison like any other, they do allow us some time in the yard, which is good for a Modern Philosopher who needs to stretch his long legs.

gymnasticsThere is a gymnastics school in the same building.  My friend Caitlin works there, but I never run into her during my strolls.

They have a lot of trophies in the windows, so I assume they are very good at what they do.

big tireWe found this giant tire around the back of the parking lot.  I asked Micki to put her foot on it to give you an idea of the tire’s size.  I don’t know where it came from, and I hope it didn’t fall off a plane that took off from nearby Bangor International Airport.

spoolsThese giant spools line the far side of the parking lot.  Seeing as how they are kept behind a chain link fence topped with barbed wire, I assume these spools are serious criminals that cannot be trusted around innocent passersby.

woodIf I had a wood burning stove, these logs would probably be just enough to keep The House on the Hill warm and toasty this Winter.

trucksThese trucks are parked in a lot across the street.  Standing out front are a few of the strikers from Fairpoint Communications.  There used to be a heck of a lot more of them, so I don’t know if the dwindling numbers mean the strike is waning, or that the workers have just gone away for Thanksgiving.

birdhouseThis birdhouse is in the little patch of trees at the front end of the property.  I assume the bird who owns it has gone South until Spring.  Maybe he sublets the place to a squirrel.

roadThis is the road that leads away from the office park.  The House on the Hill is in the other direction, so I’ve never driven down this stretch of road.  Perhaps I’ll get adventurous one day and give it a shot.  You never know.

Thanks for taking this little stroll with me.  The next photos you see will probably be very white from all the snow we’re expecting…

wow, all sorts of things going on there – and interesting mix )

  2. I like your “strolling the neighborhood pics.” Having worked for a communications company–the materials behind the chain link were very familiar. I do not advise use of creosote treated poles to make one’s Yuletide joyous–they’re quite odoriferous. The aroma of industrial waste wouldn’t exactly set the mood.
