Behind The Scenes At The Nite Show

What a wonderful night I had at The Gracie Theatre, Modern Philosophers, as we put four new episodes of The Nite Show With Danny Cashman in the can.

Many of you have asked me to share more photos of what it’s like behind the scenes at the show, so before the taping started, I went for a walk backstage with my camera.  Here is some of what I saw…

backstageHere is a view of Danny’s desk from the wings.  As you can see, it’s all decked out for The Holidays.  The crew is hard at work making final preparations.

backstage 2This is a shot of the set behind the backdrop.  It’s normally lowered, and the doors slide open for Danny and the guests to enter.

There is also an area behind the backdrop where the crew can set up the musical guest so the show doesn’t have to stop to load their equipment onto the stage.

You can see a little of the set up for The Christmas Choir in this photo.

backstage 3The Christmas Tree.  It was only visible when the doors opened for Danny and the guests to enter, or when the backdrop was raised for The Christmas Choir to perform.

backstage 4Here we are peeking in on the The Nite Show Band as the guys prepare for the show.

backstage 5Equipment and the monitor that is set up next to the entrance to the right of Danny’s desk.  This is where I nervously stood, watching that monitor, as I prepared to do the Timbo sketch.

Fond memories being back there again tonight, but without five pages of memorized script clogging up my Deep Thoughts.

backstage 6More equipment backstage.

The NESCOM students who make up the crew are absolutely amazing.  They are just college kids, but they do the job like pros.

I wanted to get some of them in the photo, but they were all so busy.  And the stupid writer was making a nuisance of himself…

backstage 7This is the dock area behind the stage.  Those are boxes of pizza lined up on the table for the crew to munch on when they get a sec.

You’d be surprised at how much space is actually behind the stage, and how many people are scurrying around back there during a show.

Hope you enjoyed this backstage access.  I took a ton of photos tonight, so expect more tomorrow when I’m enjoying my Writer’s Day at The House on the Hill.

    Thanks for the tour!

Did I just read the words “Chewy cry”? That must have been something to hear if there was audience participation.

Dave and I do a few odd things during the applause moments to get the audience in the spirit of things. We began using a Chewbacca like wail last night when I started to lose my voice. 🙂
