If you follow this blog regularly, you know that I have declared the day after a taping of The Nite Show With Danny Cashman to be a wonderful Holiday known as Writer’s Day. I use the day to enjoy the post-show glow, to revel in the fact that I am a writer on a really funny television show, and to take some time to work on other writing projects.
This first photo is a selfie taken with fellow Nite Show writer, Dave Forbes Brown. You might remember Dave as the man in the bib clamoring for his free lobster dinner in the Timbo sketch.
We sat down in front at The Gracie Theatre last night to lead the applause and laughter, and I thought it was time that The Nite Show’s writers got a little camera time.
It really was a great taping last night. We taped the Christmas episode, the New Year’s Eve Special, and an episode that will air the weekend before Valentine’s Day. Needless to say, we really had to run the gamut with our joke writing skills.
I was super pumped that Danny used one of my jokes about the new Star Wars trailer. In the second show, he told three straight monologue jokes that were written by your favorite Modern Philosopher. I’m going to refer to that as The Writer’s Hat Trick.
I got to meet the beautiful, talented, and new crowned Miss Maine, Heather Elwell. She showed off her musical talents by playing the flute. Heather also stayed for the taping of the last two shows, and posed for photos with audience members. I thought that was very sweet.
I feel a little guilty for liking our new Miss Maine because my good friend Sara also competed in the competition this year.
Clearly, I wanted Sara to win, and she will always get my vote for Miss Maine, but I guess this just wasn’t her year. You’ll get them next year Sara! I believe in you.
The other high profile, but far less beautiful guest last night, was newly re-elected Maine Governor Paul LePage.
As you well know, Modern Philosophers, this blog supported Mayor McCheese in this year’s Gubernatorial Election, but just like in Sara’s case, this simply wasn’t the Mayor’s year. He’s got my backing if he decides to run again in 2018, though.
He also brought a very nice ornament for The Nite Show’s Christmas Tree.
I took lots of photos last night, so I’m sure I’ll be sharing more about the taping with you over the course of the day.
For now, I am going to finish my Snapple and think about going back to bed. I had to get up to drop off Zombie Car at the mechanic’s for its annual inspection, but the rest of my day is blocked off to just celebrate the fact that I am a writer.
Happy Writer’s Day!
