Christmas Spirit or Freddy Krueger???

Merry Christmas Eve, Modern Philosophers!

The Christmas Eve Breakfast went very well.  The breakfast pizzas were a hit, and I’m sure my coworkers are still talking about the breakfast sausages I provided.  The real secret to those is microwaving them exactly as the instructions indicate on the package.

When my coworkers arrived, they found this handsome face waiting to greet them and wish them a Merry Christmas…

Santa AustinYes, Modern Philosophers, that is me in my Santa Claus hat and Christmas Sweater.  It’s hard to tell in this photo, but the sweater is all red and green stripes.

I think the sweater is very festive, and I only wear it at Christmas.

The Santa hat, on the other hand, is something I wear all year.  Maine is always cold and I need to keep my Deep Thoughts warm and toasty.

I received several comments on my sweater, but most of them were not positive.  In fact, they seemed to all focus on a particular horror movie character from my youth…

FreddyThat’s right, Modern Philosophers, my coworkers told me I looked like a Christmas Freddy Krueger.  Merry Christmas to me, I guess.

I wasn’t really sure how to take the comments.  As you know, I normally wear a toga, and there’s not much people can say about that other than to compliment me on my legs.

Since it was Christmas Eve and I was filled with the Christmas Spirit, I really didn’t want to argue with anyone.  Clearly, my sweater is red and green, and Freddy’s is red and black.

Mine is from Old Navy, and Freddy probably got his from an old sailor that he killed in a nightmare.

I am a huge fan of A Nightmare On Elm Street and its sequels.  So, to be compared to Freddy Krueger is a marvelous Christmas Eve gift for a movie writing, horror flick geek.

Then again, I don’t think the Freddy comments were meant as a compliment.

Don’t worry, Modern Philosophers, I’m not going to wait for my coworkers to fall asleep and replace their dreams of dancing sugar plums with a visit from Santa Freddy.

However, I can’t make up my mind if I should be offended by the comments or not.  So I’m asking you for help.

North PoleWhat do you think, Modern Philosophers?  Do I look like A Nightmare At The North Pole in my Christmas Sweater?  Or do my coworkers need to take a hike to Elm Street?  You make the call…

    OK, I get it now…

I personally think a Freddy Krueger-inspired holiday sweater is pretty awesome. Then again, I am one of those who associates horror stories with Christmas over Halloween, so take my positive feedback with consideration of the source.

Wider stripes, such as yours, are so much more impressive and are indicative of the truly deep thinker…. And your smile puts that “other bloke” to shame!
PS : re wearing the hat all year round, very sensible!
