What a difference a week makes, Modern Philosophers!
Last week, I struggled (to put it mildly) through my first three runs of the year. My body was not pleased with my return to fitness, and it made sure that I knew it. I was sore all week, but I did not let that discourage me.
I woke up early this morning, put on my Running Toga, and hit the road before the snowstorm predicted for this weekend made an appearance.
Almost immediately, I could sense a difference in how my body reacted to the run. Sure, my long legs were still sore, but they didn’t seem as heavy as they had last week. There was no burning sensation in my chest as I made my way down the road. I was able even to accelerate to get around some ice on the shoulder without feeling like I was going to collapse form the sudden increase in speed.
I made it back to The House on the Hill without having to stop, so that was a huge step in the right direction. Even though I ran a little further than last week, I still finished my run 1:30 faster than last week’s best time and a full 4:00 faster than my worst one (yes, I really struggled on last Sunday’s run!).
I’ve been eating better all week and even finding time to lift weights. When I weighed myself after my shower, I discovered that I’d lost 2lbs this week!
As much as I hate running, I’m going to keep doing it as long as I’m seeing results. Once I set my mind to something, I usually excel at it. So let’s hope that this morning’s run was a sign that I’m ready to be a runner again.
There’s nothing like a good sweat and a sense of accomplishment to get the weekend off on the right foot. Especially when it’s a weekend that threatens to bring another foot of snow to The House on the Hill.
Even if the snow prevents me from running tomorrow, I will make sure to get my miles in this week. I really can’t wait until I’m running under the warm, Summer sun.
I’m done with Winter, and I am officially running away from it even faster than I was last week!
I think we are all done with winter!
Leslie
Lucky you…
Congratulations nothing like sticking to a weight loss plan and seeing results
Yes. I really hate it when I run and the scale tells me nothing’s changed.
Fantastic, Austin. It feels more like spring, even with your storm forecast. The dinner news guy just said snow here in Syracuse tomorrow morning. It will melt. It will melt quickly. It will melt before lunch. I’m really talking myself into spring.
Not here. They said 8 – 12 inches. Boo!
Freaking Snow Miser. I hope the inch here melts right away. It said high of 35 afterward.
Good luck!
Oh, yes, running in the hot Summer sun, feeling like you should collapse over the heat. Be careful what you wish for! 🙂
I much prefer that, and I haven’t collapsed yet…
