Enjoying A Much Deserved Writer’s Day!

keep wrtingHappy Writer’s Day, Modern Philosophers!

After the amazing time I had at last night’s taping of The Nite Show With Danny Cashman, I am enjoying a late start and a very relaxing Writer’s Day.

For those of you new to the blog, Writer’s Day is my very own wonderful creation.  I take the day off after every Nite Show taping to just revel in fact that I am a writer on a popular TV show, and to take some time to work on other projects.

Last night’s taping went very well for this writer.  Danny used nine of my jokes in his monologues, and it was a thrill to sit there in the audience and listened to a packed theater laugh at my words.  I think maybe I was proudest of my joke about the angry snowman flipping off Mainers on St. Patrick’s Day, but they all earned great laughs.

Of course, some of the jokes that didn’t make the cut might find a home on this blog in my upcoming Sunday Rejects posts, so make sure you check them out and let me know if any of those were personal favorites.

Nite Show Audience QAs you can imagine, taping a TV show in front of a live studio audience doesn’t always go smoothly, but half the fun is being there for the unexpected.

The television viewers will never know about that buzz that kept messing with the audio, or the impromptu trivia contests that started during the delays, or how Danny is just a regular guy who talks about his personal life with the audience.

When you’re at a taping, you get to see how hard the NESCOM students work as the show’s crew.  They are the unsung heroes of The Nite Show, so I want to give them a big shout in this post!  Go NESCOM!

As one of the show’s writers, I introduced myself to the charming ladies of the Tuesday Forum when they arrived.  They asked me to take a group photo, and a friendship was born.  It’s a nice feeling to make a connection with people, and for them to know that I had a part in the show that’s keeping them entertained all evening.

Lady TixOf course, the night will go down in the Annals of The Nite Show, as the evening that Alex Gray of Waterfront Concerts gave free Lady Antebellum concert tickets to everyone in the studio audience!

Unlike Timbo the Intern, who promises free lobster dinners and can’t deliver, Alex actually came through and everyone left with their concert tickets.

Speaking of which, I need to find myself a date for the concert.  Anyone want to see Lady Antebellum with a handsome, yet dorky writer?  Let me know.

Hope everyone has a happy Thursday.  I know I’ll be having an awesome Writer’s Day!

  1. I love lady antebellum!!! You should probably find a date that isn’t married and doesn’t live in California though!

sounds like a great night and great day, today. maybe invite one of your new lady friends who you took the pic with?

  3. Reading this brought back memories when I worked for Desilu as a publicist and saw the weekly “I Love Lucy” and “December Bride” shows, among others,as they were filmed before audiences. It’s interesting when something goes amiss.

It must be very satisfying to see your work out there and being enjoyed!

It most certainly is. Unlike screenplays where I have to wait forever to get a reaction, I can sit in the audience and immediately know if my jokes are a success. 🙂

That’s wonderful! Nothing like making people laugh.

  8. It was nice fb-chattin’ on Writer’s Day! Love the Nite Show fake documentary script you wrote!
