The Photos Are Coming From Inside The Theater!

Nite Show GracieI took a lot of pictures during last night’s taping of The Nite Show With Danny Cashman, Modern Philosophers, and I thought I’d share some with you.

Thankfully, Danny employs professional photographers to take pictures, but I think that my odd, blurry photos give you a true writer’s perspective of what goes on inside The Gracie Theatre.

I really do enjoy live tweeting and posting to Facebook as the action is happening.  It’s my chance to give you the play by play if you can’t be at The Gracie with me.

Here are some images that caught my eye last night…

A Nite Show bandI took this photo of the band from backstage during sound check.   There is a window in the set behind where the Jump City Jazz Band sits, and you can see my reflection in the window, which I think makes this an intriguing shot.

A Nite Show setThe stage just before taping began.  The last moment of calm before the comedy storm.

A Nite Show PromoDanny shooting a promo between the second and third shows.

A Nite Show JoeI really love this shot of Joe.  I caught him at a perfect moment when it looks like he is either nodding off, or collecting himself to go all “Hulk smash!” on the set.

Joe’s a sweet, loveable guy, but in this bit, he showed his dark side.  As a result, I will never be able to look at an avocado the same way again…

A Nite Show 3 BlondeThe first guests were Three Blonde Moms, a comedy group that is performing at The Gracie Theatre this week.  They were a hoot.

A Nite Show DogDanny  had a doggie as a guest!  His owner was the 12 year old sitting next to the desk.  The young man heads up a charity called The Ride For The Wet Nose, which raises money for the Bangor Humane Society.

As you might recall, I adopted Cali and Luna from the Bangor Humane Society, so I was a big fan of this charity.

A Nite Show North Woods LawThe guys from North Woods Law stopped by for show #3.  When they left the stage, I noticed that they had been wearing their guns the whole time.  For some reason, I thought that strange.

A Nite Show artsyI’d left my normal seat in the second row, after my on camera appearance, to sit with my friend Angela and her boyfriend, so I had a slightly obstructed view.

No biggie as not much of the action takes place at center stage, but it did get in the way of my taking photos of this musical guest.  So, I tried to get all artsy and frame him in between the legs of the camera tripod.  I did go to NYU Film School, after all…

A Nite Show ChamberlainThis is local band Chamberlain, and they totally rocked it with three songs at the end of the night.  The bassist was quite a character, and we were certain he was going to smash the lead singer in the head with all the bass swinging he was doing as he pranced and danced around the stage.

Interesting note: we did a test taping at The Gracie back in September before we taped the first real shows there.  I was the fake guest for that run through, and Chamberlain was the musical guest.  So this was my second time seeing them live at The Gracie.

Thanks for joining me on this little insider’s tour of a taping of The Nite Show.  You should join me for the real thing some time.

The next taping is on April 29, and I would love to have some company.  Have your people call my people to set it up…
