The police scanners came to life early at The House on the Hill on this April Sunday, Modern Philosophers.
The intern tasked with monitoring the scanners rushed to the Master Bedroom to awaken me with the news…
Multiple sightings of Spring had been reported in the Bangor area!
As authorities scrambled to investigate, I assembled my crackerjack news team and set out to scoop the networks. As followers of this blog, you are getting the following information before anyone else!
That first photo of the handsome man squinting in the sunshine is me, Modern Philosophers! I know it’s difficult to recognize me with a smile on my face, but that is me standing out in the side yard of The House on the Hill.
This was why I was smiling. I could actually see the yard again, Modern Philosophers!
Do you remember the photos of how deep the snow was back there? It was a major job to clear a path just to get to the back roof to clear the snow and ice off of it.
I never thought I’d actually see The Great Lawn of The House on the Hill again, but it is still there! And it doesn’t look like there are any bald patches this year. Maybe the extra time under all that snow helped. I’ll have to check with my Gardening Staff.
Remember that giant mountain of snow that blocked the left door to my garage because I didn’t have the strength, patience, or sanity to shovel both sides of the driveway?
Well, that mountain has finally vanished! My driveway is just empty plains again, and I hope the topography remains flat for a long time…
I present to you The House on the Hill (Spring Version)!
Of course, since this is Maine, there is still that small pile of snow on The Great Lawn, but I’m sure my Gardening Staff will remove it soon enough.
Hopefully, Spring is truly here and these poor neighbors will no longer have to use their snow tunnel to access their front porch. Those were trying times, I’m sure…
Should I start a pool as to when this filthy mountain range of snow will finally melt? It is pretty disgusting at this point, so maybe an anonymous call to the Health Department will lead to its getting carted away…
Speaking of pools, it’s still not warm enough to swim, but at least the glaciers have melted and the town pool is closer to being usable. I think there is still a family of penguins and one polar bear living in there…
There are still pockets of resistance, of course. This snow has hunkered down in a nearby field and has issued a statement that it is not leaving without a fight. Governor LePage might need to activate the National Guard to deal with this.
I will keep you posted, Modern Philosophers, and bring you live coverage if this leads to a standoff. Stay tuned!
The shopping carts have migrated north again… a sure sign that Spring is on its way!
A wide shot without a speck of snow to be seen! Maybe Spring really is here…
This parking lot will be taken over by the Farmers Market on Sundays very soon. That is when we’ll know for sure that Spring has come to rescue us.
Reporting live from Bangor, Maine, this is the Modern Philosopher signing off…
Let it melt, let it melt, can’t hold it back anymoooore, let it melt, let it melt, turn away and open the door……..and that’s all I’ve got.
An excellent start! 🙂
Oh wow, you DO have a yard! Your house looks awesome!
Thanks! And I got all crazy and decided to blog about it. Can you believe it??? 🙂
It had to happen I guess. Cool house BTW!
Thank you. 🙂
Thaw is my favorite Northern season! Perhaps you could maybe get your Sunday visitor (the guy with the Hellfire wings) to assist in finishing the thaw? Would that be putting your mortal soul in peril?
I’m sure Lucifer would be happy to oversee the Gardening Staff!
at very long last!
Thank Zeus!
You look good in warm sunshine!
Thanks. It’s a totally new look for me. 🙂
Where do the shopping carts go when they migrate south?
A would suppose sidewalks and parking lots in Florida. You’d have to ask them, though…
I’d jump in that shopping cart and scream “wee” down your local hill, if you have one. Then you’d have to catch me.
(It works now!)
Hurrah! Sure, I’d catch you. You seem worth the effort. 😉
Who wouldn’t be?
Some of the meaner people out there…
Jon Hamm doesn’t know any better.
True. You are so wise.
So we’re just letting him off the hook?
No, but we can’t just solve every problem instantly via blog chatter. 🙂
Beautiful!
As are you, Emma. 🙂
Aww, shucks, thank you Austin 🙂
It’s always a great feeling to see the snow melting. Here’s hoping the snow is gone for the year.
I walked out of work today in short sleeves and carrying my jacket. It was gorgeous! Almost Becky-like, it was so beautiful. 😉
Aw that’s sweet. 🙂
Isn’t it? Why doesn’t this charm seem to work on women who live in my general area? Maybe it’s more or a midwestern charm?:)
Who knows! Maybe. 🙂
I think you just have a soft spot for me. 🙂
That could be. 🙂
Awww…that’s as good as a yes, Beautiful Becky. 🙂
Thank you. 🙂
You are welcome. So happy to have your comments to reply to again.
Thanks!
We all missed you, but I missed you most. 🙂
