If The Nite Show Is Rocking, Please Come A-Knocking!

Nite Show logo 3I’m sure when you think of The Nite Show With Danny Cashman, Modern Philosophers, you focus on the hilarious, well-written monologue jokes.

But that’s only because I’ve trained you well.

One of the best things about going to a live taping of The Nite Show is getting to listen to all the amazing music.

The TV audience sees one performance by the night’s musical guest, and they hear The Jump City Jazz Band play the show in and out of commercial breaks.

If you’re lucky enough to be in the audience at The Gracie Theatre, however, you get to enjoy so much more.

music 10The Jump City Jazz Band is an awesome house band.  They entertain the audience throughout the commercial breaks, putting in powerful performances that never make it onto your TV set at home.

And due to the occasional technical difficulty, they will sometimes have to play The Nite Show theme more than once, or just improvise a performance for the crowd until the crew can get things running smoothly again.

music 15Of course, I get the privilege of hanging out backstage during sound check, so I can listen to the band rehearse.  And see them in their casual threads.

They are a great group of guys, even though some of them still call me Timbo…

music 11Because The Penobscot Theater is in Downtown Bangor, The Nite Show often welcomes performers from that stage to The Gracie’s.

Currently, “Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash” is being performed at the Bangor Opera House.  This week’s musical guest is Jeremy Sevelovitz, who headlines the show as Johnny Cash.

music 9If you closed your eyes and listened, Modern Philosophers, it really sounded like Johnny Cash was up on stage.

Now I can tell people I saw him perform live!

music 3Sometimes, music legends visit The Nite Show.  Recognize the man sitting between Danny and Joe, Modern Philosophers?

That’s Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul, and Mary!  If you look closely, you can see his guitar tucked away behind him.  He serenaded us from that seat…

music 7And then again from the main stage.  What a showman!

music 8He also bantered with Danny before his performance, and got in some hilarious zingers.

This is the kind of fun, entertaining stuff that the folks at home never get to see, and why you want to be at The Nite Show when it’s rocking!

music 12Sometimes, I’ll be wandering around backstage and stumble upon the musical guests as they hang out in their dressing room.

These are three of the guys from Mes Amis.  I introduced myself and asked if I could take a photo for my blog.  They were more than happy to comply, and we ended up talking for a few minutes.  They were a lot of fun, and I was excited to see them perform.

music 1Later, Mes Amis closed out the taping with a rousing performance.  If you want to find out more about them, check out their Facebook page or visit their site: Mes Amis link

music 2Mes Amis then gave the studio audience a treat by performing two additional songs.  Mini concerts like this are the norm at a taping of The Nite Show, and just one more reason to show up to see the show live.

Of course, you really want to be at The Gracie Theatre so you can see Danny dancing to the music.  That alone is well worth the price of admission (which is free!)…

music 4music 5music 6With moves like that, we should expect to see Danny on an upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars!

And that, Modern Philosophers, is why you should run into The Gracie Theatre whenever you hear The Nite Show rocking.  Trust me, you are missing out on a great time.

The Season Premiere of The Nite Show airs tonight in Maine.  If you can’t catch it, but want more information about the show, visit its Facebook page, check out its YouTube channel, or follow it on Twitter @TheNiteShowME.

Rock on, Modern Philosophers!
