Wonderful time
Of the year!”
They lied.
“Your days
Will be merry
And bright!”
They insisted.
What they don’t
Seem to realize
Is that I
Don’t see Christmas
Through the same
Rose and green
Colored glasses.
Every December,
My oft broken heart
Composes a well-written
Letter to Santa
Begging Jolly Old
Saint Nick
To bring it
True love
On Christmas Day.
Every year,
My poor heart
Breaks yet again
When it discovers
There’s nothing
Beneath the tree.
Christmas is a
Season of giving
Me no reason
To be merry.
This year,
However,
There’s the slimmest
Of chances
That silver bells
Might finally ring
In a house
Too well acquainted
With silent nights.
A new hope
Has appeared
Like a star,
A star,
Shining in the night,
Far off
On the horizon,
Leading this
Wise man
To believe
That the future
Might not be
One eternal
Blue Christmas.
Love is not
In the air,
But perhaps
Kris Kringle
Has another gift
In mind
For the lonely man
In the House
On the Hill.
Santa Claus
Is coming to town,
And for once,
I might need
A little Christmas.
Maybe not this
Very minute,
But sometime,
In the not
So distant
Future.
Because,
As you know,
There’s no place
Like Hope
For the holidays.
I’m hoping you’ll like my writing enough to follow my blog and check me out on Pinterest…
Hope is a powerful thing. So here’s hoping that your Christmas will have far, far more than just “the slimmest of chances” of being merry and bright. 🙂
I hope you’re right. 🙂
Hope is the only thing we can ever have – have a lovely Christmas Austin!

Hang in there, Modern Philosopher. You have your readers to keep you warm.
Well, the last reader who kept me warm stayed in Ireland instead of coming here…
