Yippee Ki Yay, Santa Claus!

Die Hard, Christmas movies, Christmas, Yippee Ki Yay, poem, humor, Modern Philosopher‘Twas the night

Before Christmas

At The House

On the Hill,

And I was watching

A movie

Packed with

Action and thrills.

A Christmas classic

So witty and quick,

Yet nary a mention

Of Jolly St. Nick.

My most favorite line

For which I’m a sucker

Is John McClane’s saying

“Yippee ki yay, mother@#$%^&!”

Of course,

I’m talking about

Die Hard.

Just because

It’s jam packed

With violence and

Other activities

That would land

Anyone on

The Naughty List,

Doesn’t mean

That it’s not

A Christmas flick.

Would you be

More open

To the idea

If the title had been

Something more seasonal like

Die Hard: Office Christmas Party,

Not So Silent Night At Nakatomi Plaza,

Or Secret Santa’s Got A Gun?

Christmas movies

Have the common threads

Of giving us hope,

Making us laugh,

And leaving us longing

To be with loved ones

On Christmas morning.

Die Hard

Has all those things,

And just throws in guns,

Murder, explosions, terrorism,

Hostage taking, and robbery

To give it a little edge.

Sure, I still love

It’s A Wonderful Life,

A Christmas Story,

And Love Actually,

But give me

A barefoot,

Gun toting,

Wisecracking

John McClane

Any Christmas Eve.

Yippee Ki Yay,

Santa Claus!

Welcome to the party, pal!

Merry Christmas to you all!
