Happy Friday, Modern Philosophers!
I’m off from the desk job today because The Nite Show is going on a road trip! Today, Danny is taking our ragtag troupe of late night rebels to southern Maine for a taping in Westbrook.
I’ve lived in Maine thirteen years, and I’ve never been down to the Portland area, so I’m very excited.
I’ll be riding down with Joy, Danny’s right hand woman, and Steve, one of my fellow writers. The mere fact that I don’t have to do the driving already makes this an excellent road trip.
It’s snowing a little right now, but the weather shouldn’t be an issue. Of course, we won’t be able to travel with the top down like in the photo, but in my mind, we will be going full convertible.
This trip comes at the perfect time because it’s been a stressful week with Luna being sick. She did have a successful dental procedure yesterday, so the vet hopes that will clear up the sinus issue. Fingers crossed that all is well.
Last year, The Nite Show road trip was to Houlton, which is in northern Maine. We were so close to the Canadian border that I could smell the Canadian bacon and had an overwhelming urge to be incredibly polite.
Just like in Houlton, I will be taking on an additional role today in Westbrook. Not only have I already written a ton of very funny monologue jokes, but I will also be up on stage tonight (just out of camera range if I’m doing it correctly!) in the role of Cue Card Guy.
There’s a photo of me in my first go around as Cue Card Guy. Clearly, I didn’t grasp the subtleties of the job given how I’m holding the card sideways.
Luckily, Katie will be working as Floor Manager tonight, just as she did at the Houlton taping. This means, I just follow her around everywhere, and I will always be exactly where Danny needs me to be.
Sure, it makes the taping a little less relaxing when I have to work rather than just sit back and enjoy the show, but it’s also quite a rush to be a part of the production.
I will do my best to take some behind the scenes photos today, but I probably won’t be able to take a many as usual because it might cause me to drop the cue cards.
Then again, I’ll be able to provide some shots from a whole new perspective.
Hope you all have a great Friday. I know I will have a blast on my road trip!
Follow me on my blog and on Pinterest, and maybe I’ll let you tag along on the next Nite Show Road Trip!
Great photo!
Thanks. Credit for that goes to Michael Murphy. 🙂
Have Fun (Fingers crossed) and Fingers crossed for Luna too. ~~dru~~
The taping went very well. Luna is doing better…thanks for the warm wishes. 🙂
Have fun, buddy!
Thanks. We had a blast and I didn’t drop the cue cards! I’m going to write a post with lots of pics from the taping today. 🙂
I’m looking forward to it.
I need to convince Danny to go to Canada next. We were in Houlton last year, which is right neat the border…
You could do a show from the casino!
I’d be your go-fer…
That would be awesome. 🙂
