Summer, Finally

first day of summer, Maine, poetry, Modern PhilosopherThe first day

Of Summer

With a long,

Sweaty run.

What better way

To celebrate

The return

Of warmer weather?

The longest day

Of a marathon year

Did not

The Yankees

Won another game.

I survived

Another day

Not spent

As a

Full time Writer.

Of creating

A short film

Danced in

My head,

Like they, too,

Had been

By the return

Of my favorite season.

The first day

Of Summer

Is winding down

With me

Out on the porch,

Listening to the

While I write.

Brings hope,

New life,

And ridiculous

Tan lines

To a world askew.

The first day

Of Summer

Reminds me

That the snow

Always melts,

No matter

How bad

The Winter.

About Austin

Native New Yorker who's fled to the quiet life in Maine. I write movies, root for the Yankees, and shovel lots of snow.
