I woke up feeling like crap, Modern Philosophers. And not just because I knew I had to go to work.
Even though I was a tad under the weather, I pushed myself to go for my morning run. I’ve been doing this for a year and a half now, so I wasn’t going to let an upset stomach, a headache, and a slightly sore throat keep me from getting in my exercise for the morning.
My one concession to my ailment was to change my route to something much closer to The House on the Hill. That way, if my malady went to Code Red status, I wouldn’t be several miles from home sweet home.
For the record, I still went four miles. Paramedics were not needed.
I am not a doctor, and I have never played one on TV, but I still feel comfortable self-medicating when I am ill.
That’s probably because the only thing I really ever prescribe for myself is ice cream.
The new TV Season has started, which means I’ve got a DVR jam packed with great shows to watch, and I plan to do so while eating a big bowl of chocolate peanut butter medicine.
And that, Modern Philosophers, is why I drag my aching body out for a run in the morning… to justify my bowl of ice cream once I get home!
The start of the new TV Season doesn’t just mean hours of viewing fun, though. It also means it’s time for me to go back to work on The Nite Show with Danny Cashman.
Our first taping of the season is next Wednesday, which means I will spend the weekend trying to make Danny sound as hilarious as possible when he does his monologue.
I’m excited to get back to work, and can’t wait to see what kind of jokes my brain comes up with for the Season Premiere.
Something tells me there will be several jokes made at the expense of President Trump.
And Bruce Poliquin will probably be on the receiving end of some barbs as I’m getting tired of all his campaign commercials and lawn signs.
This should be a blast.
Speaking of writing, I received a couple of glowing reviews this week for Episode 3 of my TV series. I broke from tradition (some writers are very superstitious, you know!) and asked my neighbor to read the scripts for me.
I’ve been thrilled with her feedback and her enthusiasm for the characters. Just yesterday, she was texting me about how the two leads have to end up together.
It’s cool to see someone so invested in my characters and anxious to know where the story goes next. We’ve had some great chats about how much in the scripts really happened, and it’s been fun to talk about the college days with someone who wasn’t there.
Episode 4 is outlined and I will probably start on it once I’m done with my writing for The Nite Show. Oh, and there are even notes for the Halloween Episode. How can you have a series set at NYU and not mention the Village Halloween Parade?
I’m also excited about the upcoming baseball playoffs. The Yankees had an afternoon game today, so I was following it on my phone during my lunch break.
I know the Bronx Bombers have faltered a little of late, but they seem to be hitting their stride at just the right time. They blasted four home runs today in a 12-1 romp. With one more win, they clinch home field advantage of the Wild Card Game.
Can’t wait to watch that, and maybe go a little crazy like I do every year for the playoffs…
I guess that’s all the Deep Thoughts I want to share for now. My headache is coming back, so I think I need to scoop out some medicine and curl up on the couch.
It felt good to get a little writing done and distract my brain and body from the sickness.
Thanks for letting me ramble a little…
I hope the ice cream was delicious!
Good luck with writing episode four.
It was so good, and will be good again tonight. 🙂
Feel better, Austin. There’s so much on your plate!
Thanks, Mark. Happy Friday!
I am really impressed with running while under the weather. That ice cream was extra deserved! Good luck with episode four. 🙂
Thank you. I’ve got to write monologue jokes next, but Episode 4 should be started later this week!
As someone who is not a doctor, I definitely recommend ice cream for all of your ailments. Ice Cream and maybe a bacon cheese burger.
Good to know. I might come to you for a second opinion in the future… 🙂
