What’s Your All-American Holiday Menu?

Food is an important part of American culture, Modern Philosophers.

If you don’t believe me, believe the numbers.  In a recent survey of all adults living at The House on the Hill, 100% responded that food was Very Important.  Respondents also wrote in the following:

Yeah, food gets me though trying times.  It can totally make me forget about a stressful day.  Why are you asking about food anyway?  Are you planning to feed me?  If so, that would be awesome because I’m a bit stressed right now…

It’s Memorial Day Weekend, which is known as the traditional start of Summer.  More importantly this year, it’s the first big holiday after many Americans have been vaccinated, mask mandates have been lifted, gathering restrictions have been rescinded, and life has slowly crept back towards normal.

A long weekend means barbecues.  Which begs the question:

If I’m going to break out the grill at The House on the Hill, I’m definitely going to do it right.  After all, when you’re single and have no one with whom to celebrate the holiday, you are still required by law to prepare enough food for a family of four.

If you don’t believe me, check the Constitution!

In honor of the holiday, I went with an All-American menu.  There will be red hot dogs, cheeseburgers (with onions and mushrooms), french fries, chips, dip, Snapple, apple pie, and chocolate peanut butter ice cream.

To clarify, not all of that will be eaten in the same sitting, nor will it all be prepared on the grill.  I’ve heard of fried ice cream, but I prefer mine cold and served on top of my apple pie.

Don’t worry, there will be long runs over the weekend to burn off the calories.  I’ll also be doing a lot of writing, which also burns calories.

You could probably call me on that writing burning calories factoid, but it’s the holiday weekend, so why not give it a rest and just let it slide?

I hope you all enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend.  It’s supposed to be cold and rainy here in Maine, but I’ve got the warmth of the grill and all these calories to keep me feeling cozy.

Remember, even though things are opening up again, life still isn’t back to where it was before the pandemic.  Pace yourself.  Be safe.

And between courses of holiday meals, don’t forget to take a moment to remember why we celebrate this holiday.
