It was a Black Friday for me, Modern Philosophers, but not because I went on any shopping sprees and did bodily harm to others in order to take advantage of a sale.
It was a dark day because I had to go to work when all I really wanted to do was stay home, sleep, and attack the leftovers.
We operated with a skeleton crew at work, and the day just dragged. Sure, a quiet day is never a bad thing, but the lack of phone calls and urgent matters requiring my immediate attention seemed to mock me.
So I did what any other Modern Philosopher in a workday crisis should do…I busted out some Foo Fighters.
Dave Grohl and the boys never fail to bring a little excitement to any situation, and the black clouds simply cannot hover when the music is cranked and the Foos are rocking.
My Boy Scout background taught me to always be prepared, and that is why my “Wasting Light” CD is always in my bag.
If you’ve never listened to this particular CD all the way through, I highly recommend it. It’s one kick ass song after another, culminating with “Walk”, which is my favorite song on the album and always needs to be listened to twice.
Needless to say, things started looking up once I had my injection of Foo Fighters. I’m sure the few coworkers within earshot of me really appreciated my singing along to the music, and probably had their days kick started as well.
I’m not going to say that I got up on my desk and started to rock out, but you can decide for yourself whether or not that happened.
All I know is that when Dave Grohl and the boys decide to take charge of my work day, a boring Black Friday can get very exciting after just a song or two.
And you don’t have to take my word for it. The next time work has the pillow of boredom pressed over your face in an attempt to kill off the last of your brain cells, crank up some Foo Fighters and let me know what happens.
Happy Friday, Modern Philosophers! We survived another week!
Foo Fighters? My mind is still firmly planted in the Metallica era. So…I listened to “Walk” on Youtube. Not bad.
Foo Fighters were the name given by WWII flyers for the UFO’s they spotted.
Yes, I knew that about the name. Glad you tried out the song. Ironically, it’s a great song for running. 🙂
Starts out slow and you can pick up the pace when you’re warmed up.
Exactly. It’s like Dave Grohl wants me to listen to the band when I run. 🙂
Foo Fighters wake the dead. Dave Grohl is an animal, endangered species.
Just wrote another post about the night I saw him play drums for Tom Petty on SNL…
Everlong, the acoustic version, is one of the best songs. ever.
We all have our favorites, and that it a great one. 🙂
yeh, that’s a good one for sure austin. fyi – in my version, i would have bring your ‘fire-fighters’ to work day, that would really be something )
To each her own… 😉
Love the Foo Fighters, thanks to my stepson, a big fan. You’d probably like Them Crooked Vultures, too…another Dave Grohl creation. Hope you are sleeping in today.
Nope. Up way too early. Ugh. Thanks for the kind thought, though… 🙂
I looked up “Walk” on Youtube. A bit repetitive, but not bad.
I’m glad you gave it a shot. 🙂
