Basically, I really wanted to write something, but I didn’t feel like I had the energy to write a full fledged post. And that’s why the After Dinner Mints feature was created.
Deep Thoughts, but on a limited basis. Something of a pallet cleanser for the brain, to clear out the bad thoughts and the stress from another long day.
I had a couple of weird cravings today. These usually take hold of my mind when I’m locked in some sort of infinite loop of work related madness. The overwhelming desire for a specific food forces my brain to focus on something else, and frees it from the dangerous thought loop that could lead to brain melt or sudden onset of longing for retirement.
The first craving was for ice cream. Mind you it’s February in Maine, and it was so windy today that my porch chairs got blown over and tossed across the porch like they were made of paper. Even though the craving made very little sense, I just wanted a big bowl of something chocolate and peanut butter.
I did not give in to this craving.
The second craving was for Chicago deep dish pizza. I have no idea where that one came from, but I was suddenly transported back to the year right after graduation, when J and I went to Chicago to visit her Mom. I loved the deep dish pizza so much, I insisted on having it several times during our trip.
I did not fly to Chicago to give in to this craving, as that would have been irresponsible given the pandemic and whatnot. I did, however, switch up my dinner plans and bust out the frozen pizza I was saving for the weekend.
Not all cravings are food related.
I’ve been craving this week’s episode of Clarice. Is anyone else watching this newshow? It’s about the career of Agent Clarice Starling, rising FBI star, killer of Buffalo Bill, and buddy of everyone’s favorite cannibal, one year after we met her in The Silence of the Lambs. It’s still early, but I’m enjoying it, and can’t wait to watch tonight’s episode.
I’ve also had a craving for extra sleep this week. I’ve been going to bed early, and sometimes skipping my run to sleep late. Not exactly the healthiest thing to do, but I don’t think it makes sense to get up early and push myself to run when my batteries are in need of a recharge.
Finally, I’m craving warmer weather, and what that might have in store for me. Just seeing the temperature crawl above 32 degrees gets me all giddy. It even led to my most popular tweet of the week…
Maybe good things are waiting for me. At the very least, I bet there is a big bowl of ice cream in my future…
